School governors are drawn from different parts of the community - parents, the staff, the church and the Local Education Authority are all represented on the governing body. This helps to ensure that the governing body has a range of views and experience. There are around 345,000 school governors contributing to strategic development and raising standards of achievement at over 30,000 schools. Governors are volunteers.
The governing body of a school is responsible for ensuring that it is run to promote pupil achievement. Its duties include:
The governing body is made up of: parent governors (elected by parents) staff representatives (elected by school staff) local authority governors (appointed by the local authority) community governors (members of the local community appointed by the governing body) for some schools, people appointed by the relevant religious body or foundation up to two sponsor governors, or four if the school is a secondary school (appointed by the governing body)
The following are members of the school’s governing body:
Mrs Ann Beaton (Chair)
Mr Tony Vaughan (Vice-Chair)
The governors meet at least once a term. Dates of meetings are published beforehand and approved minutes are published as soon as they are available. Anyone with a matter they wish to have discussed at a governors' meeting should write to the Clerk or the Governors at the school. Agenda and minutes are available in the school office.
